About Dental Crowns
To restore and protect chipped teeth, discolored enamel, considerable decay, and different issues, dental crowns sit over the visible portion of the tooth. At Vista Ridge Dental Care in Erie, CO, crowns (also known as caps) are tough, lasting covers that fit closely over the area of the tooth above the gumline to cover where a dental cavity is too sizeable to be fixed with a regular filling or if a tooth is damaged and must have protection. Crowns can also be helpful to conceal a different color tooth or adding stability to a dental bridge. Crowns by our dentists at Vista Ridge Dental Care can be porcelain, ceramic, or metal, according to the location of the crown. The less visible teeth typically are helped by the increased strength of metal, but the front teeth look more natural with porcelain or ceramic crowns, which are dyed to be the same as the patient's natural teeth.
"I've been using them for 6 years now, and always get excellent care and advice. I went in for a teeth cleaning, and the hygienist took the time to explain what she was seeing, and then did an outstanding and thorough job of cleaning my teeth. Everyone has always been extremely friendly over the years."- B.D. / Google / May 03, 2019

"Just gotta say so far this place is amazing! I had taken my daughter to another dentist to get a quote for some dental work and it was outrageous! Quoted me almost 2000. I took the same quote to Vista ridge and had them evaluate her teeth and I'm only paying $15. They are super friendly and really want to help. Thank you!"- J.B. / Yelp / Apr 27, 2019

What to Expect
To make a personalized crown, our dentists first ready the tooth by filing off a slender layer of enamel, and then taking digital X-rays and molds of the tooth, which will be taken to the nearest dental lab. A temporary crown may be used to cover the tooth while the custom crown is being created. As soon as the custom crown is returned to Vista Ridge Dental Care in Erie, CO, our dentists will carefully set and fit the crown on top of the tooth. Our dentists will alter the crown for the most comfortable fit.
Some patients will feel brief tenderness or sensitivity to hot and cold, although for the most part patients will not feel any soreness after the crown is in place. With ideal home care and routine dental exams and cleanings, a dental cap will stay in place for anywhere from 10 - 40 years, depending on the placement and material of the crown. Some patients may have an infection or cavity will grow below the crown, which will need a root canal treatment or a different procedure.
If the dental cap is regarded as essential for the patient's health, dental insurance companies will usually cover part or most of the bill, so our office staff at Vista Ridge Dental Care in Erie, CO will talk with the insurance to estimate their coverage and then the patient's portion of the costs. Estimated billing, payment options, and financing plans are available at our office in Erie, CO and can be talked about during the patient's meeting with our dentists.
